Human nature is the one constant through human history. It is always there. — Thucydides

VIRTUE… THE MOST RELIABLE WEALTH YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN

Paul Stoltz, my good friend and mentor has served to broaden my outlook. Paul shares excellent counsel with me, such as…. “It is not the distance you travel on the plane that matters but the distance you travel in your mind.”  Paul also advises, “those that limit their vantage point limit their possibilities.” Paul further advises that we “must demonstrate unprecedented cultural agility and alacrity in order to remain viable and marketable.”

Rather than just being open to new ideas and new experiences, today we take a virtue lesson from an ancient character in China by associating the Character Building Project (CBP) with the story of Fan Zhongyan*, a thinker and an educator, during the Northern Song Dynasty.

The ancient philosophy of family education has always included an orientation towards viewing ethics as the highest moral value. Parents always want to leave the best for their children. In fact, regardless of how much money parent’s leave for their children, they are merely worldly possessions. Only teaching children to do good deeds and focusing on virtue is a desirable long-term plan for children, because virtue is the most fundamental and the best attribute. It is the source of all blessings. It is the most reliable wealth you can leave for your children.

Paul how is that for demonstrating cultural agility and alacrity?
