MARTHA TROWBRIDGE: A COURAGEOUS MEMBER OF THE CHARACTER COMMUNITY

Today I am especially pleased to shine The Character Building Project spotlight on a courageous women member of the “character community.” You need to know her personal story to understand why she is a courageous woman.

Martha Trowbridge is a Cambridge MA native and longtime resident, now living in rural Vermont. A conservative Republican with many years experience as a liberal Democrat, her youth was steeped in Kennedy elections and politics. Her maternal uncle, Cambridge Mayor, City Manager and later Boston Municipal Court Judge Joseph A. DeGuglielmo worked tirelessly to deliver Cambridge voters to young Jack Kennedy when he first ran for Congress, and in all of his subsequent elections. Joe also invented the wildly effective ‘Kennedy Teas’, providing much needed stimulus to Jack’s tough campaign.

One of Martha’s most vivid childhood memories is that of Uncle Joe’s home office, the wall of which was plastered with photos of every Kennedy wedding. Another vivid childhood memory: Uncle Joe’s pain and disappointment at the behavior of Senator Ted Kennedy. Up for an impending federal judicial appointment by President Kennedy, after The President was assassinated Uncle Joe respectfully sought Ted’s assistance. “You’re my brother’s appointee, not mine,” Ted responded.

Currently Executive Producer & Host of Martha Trowbridge Radio, LLC / Empathic Wisdom For Suffering Women, Martha has created and developed Wives At Risk, an innovative audio outreach series on domestic abuse and violence scheduled to debut in Spring 2011.  Please see

Her diligent ongoing studies include psychology, theology, politics and business [strategic marketing]. She is the granddaughter of two sets of Italian immigrants from the turn of the twentieth century, both successful entrepreneurs. From

1998 to present, Martha and her family have had the distinct privilege of living amongst God’s magnificent creations of nature and wildlife in hilly, rural Vermont.

In the weeks ahead, we hope to feature Martha as a guest blogger on The Character Building Project.
