All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. — Edmund Burke

Paul Eckstein: A Man of Exemplary Character

While Paul has never placed his name on the ballot, he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for candidates of character in his home state of Arizona. As campaign manager for Jack Brown’s run for congress, Paul chose the slogan, “The issue is integrity.” Integrity remains the issue for Paul.

As an astute observer of the political process, he shares his insights by teaching at his undergraduate alma mater, Pomona College. Paul’s extraordinary work ethic made it possible for Paul to excel both in his law practice and in politics and be held in high regard by both political parties in his state.

Credit for Paul’s exemplary character comes in large part from his close-knit family, a lifetime observance of his Jewish faith, a solid marriage to Flo, and loyalty to his mentor and former law partner Jack Brown.  Think big, but master the details, as Jack would say. Paul learned from Jack that being a lawyer, whether on the transactional or litigation side requires detail-oriented organization.

Paul did more than wonder about restoring the practice of law to an honorable station; he made it his life’s work. As Malcolm Gladwell remarks in Outliers, “Working hard is really what successful people do.” Paul believes that the lawyer today has all the tools to be successful, but all the incentive to cut corners and be satisfied with complacency.
