Character Building … A Glorious Quest
Yesterday while attending a fundraiser for the Red Cloud Lakota Indian Jesuit High School, a pal of mine shared his opinion that the mission of The Character Building Project (http://www.characters-with-character.com/mission-statement/) was impractical.
It is not infrequent that such “cynical Diogenes of politics,” tell me I am a naïve Don Quixote pursuing my duty in The Character Building Project. My reaction is to I pull Cervantes off the bookshelf and fire up my favorite you tube.
Please enjoy viewing Peter O’Toole and Sophia Loren

The Man from La Mancha
“To dream the impossible dream
To fight the impossible foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the un-rightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star …
To fight for the right without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell for a heavenly cause!”
Don Quixote is one the finest creations in literature. Cervantes eternal themes are as relevant today as those hundreds of years ago.
Each day more of my fellow citizens are joining this project. Thank you for your continuing to comment on our blog and share your suggestions for instilling good character in our political life.
Another option is to admit nothing, deny everything, attack your friend’s character, leak a sympathetic narrative to the news media, appoint a blue ribbon commission, staff it with your friends, expense it on the taxpayer dime, and hold a press conference to congratulate yourself on your strong and necessary actions. Politics as usual.Impractical or not, your character initiative beats the alternative, which is to capitulate to the failure of leadership in civic life.
The quote below is especially noteworthy as we start the Memorial Day weekend. It also applies to the CBP:A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. ~Joseph CampbellLT
Frank Sherman sounds like a Washington veteran, but one who still believes in the future of self government … Impractical or not, your character initiative beats the alternative, which is to capitulate to the failure of leadership in civic life.’It is fitting LT places our project in a correct perspective reminding us of the fallen and wounded warriors we honor this Memorial day weekend.Thank you both.
